The Infinity series is the evolution of the Epic React series which was the first Nike running shoe to feature React foam. It's a really popular daily trainer in the Nike lineup because of its comfortable upper, depth of cushioning and its modern looks. The Infinity RN4 is a very different version to the first 3 in terms of ride and looks.
This article will be able to tell you which version is better for you, the Infinity RN4 or the Infinity Run 3.
The Infinity RN4 uses Nike’s new ReactX foam in its midsole. This foam is slightly softer than regular React foam. It also delivers more energy return. This new midsole foam gives the Infinity RN4 a plusher, more engaging ride than previous Infinity versions.
The Infinity Run 3 has a relatively firm ride because it has older React foam in its midsole but it still has a very cushioned ride which can handle long distances up to a marathon.
The Infinity RN4 with its plusher ride is more suited to easy runs than the Infinity Run 3. The Infinity RN 4 is also better for long distances because it’s more comfortable. The Infinity Run 3 is better for fast-paced runs due to its firmer React midsole which provides a firm platform to push off from.
One of the big differences when it comes to ride is the arch support of the Infinity Run 3. It has a prominent arch which stops your ankle from rolling excessively inward. The Infinity RN4 doesn’t have the prominent arch.
On the outsoles, The Infinity RN4 has a lot more outsole rubber. The Infinity Run 3 has exposed midsole foam which makes it less durable.
The Infinity RN4 has a snugger fitting upper with a less stretchy, knitted material. The Infinity Run 3 upper is not as soft but has a more accommodating fit. The Infinity Run 3 has an additional heel clip which provides more stability.
The Infinity RN4 has a small fit so you need to go up a half size whereas the Infinity Run 3 fits true to size. Both trainers have a narrow fit with no additional widths available.
If you’re looking for a running shoe which is better for easy and recovery runs, the Infinity RN4 is the shoe you should pick. Its plusher ReactX midsole provides more comfort when you’re doing slow runs or long runs. The Infinity RN4 also has a more durable outsole which will last longer.
If you prefer a firmer shoe which performs better on faster runs, the Infinity Run 3 is the shoe you should pick. It has more stability features and it doesn’t compress as much when the midsole is loaded. It also has a more accommodating upper fit if you have high volume feet.
